8th Grade Science
Today for Sci Fi Friday, we read the classic short story "Most Dangerous Game." A link to the story is below.
HOMEWORK: In the Sci Fi Friday section of your notebook, answer the question what is the most dangerous animal to hunt. http://www.dukeofdefinition.com/dangerous_game.pdf Students did a phenomenal job designing wind turbine blades. Our top three teams in 3rd period were
1. Emily and Ayden 2. Pace and Kai Kai 3. Tie: Nate and Sam/ Noah and Santi 4th Period: 1. Annie and Adian 2. Jenna and Michael 3. Emko and Kevin The overall winner, generating 1.6 volts, is Annie and Adian. Congratulations! HOMEWORK: None! :-) Today students were engaged in learning about how wind turbines work. After learning the basics, they worked in small groups to see if they could come up with a blade design that would produce the highest output of electricity. Blades were tested and compared. All in all, a very fun day! See everyone at the Shindig tonight!
To continue our studies of Renewable Energy, we watched the following episode of PBS Nova.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CFecMovqTr4 Students are to record 3 surprising or interesting facts from the movie into their science notebooks. Today, students took notes on renewable energy resources and will finish these notes tomorrow.
8th grade students read the classic story "The Monkey's Paw" by W.A. Jacobs. Here is a link to the story:
http://edweb.tusd.k12.az.us/dherring/apdocs/monkeyspaw.pdf For homework students need to record in their notebooks a list of three wishes they would make in a way that cannot backfire. Have fun! For an extra laugh, find the episode of The Simpsons "Treehouse of Horror 2" in which one part is based on this story. Fun stuff! |
