7th Grade Science
Jason will be out of town the week of March 5th, and the fantastic Skyla will be subbing! During this week, students will be working on the following:
1. March Mammal Madness Research! All students will be participating by filling out a bracket for this exciting and informative competition! In addition to filling out a bracket, students will also become an expert on one of the 65 species. Below, find links to a website on the competition, the bracket, the list of who is researching which animal, and the sheets that they will need to do. Have fun! 1. March Mammal Madness Website and Bracket 2. Who Is Researching which Animal 3. Research Sheet 4. Debate Sheet The bracket is due Monday March 12th. The research and debate information is due Wed. March 7th at the end of class. 2. Students will work on their egg drop projects. 3. Students will watch the movie on the refugee migration called Human Flow on Friday March 9th.

We started learning the important skill of making dichotomous keys. Students worked in groups to try and write a dichotomous key for their groups' shoes.
Tomorrow we will apply the skills to single-cell organisms. Genetics Test on Thursday! Here is a link to the study guide. If you can do all of the questions in this, you are good to go!
Study Guide Today, we took notes on pedigrees and how they are used as a visual tool to understand how traits are passed from one generation to the next.
Students worked on two worksheet sets as well. If you were absent today, make sure to get the notes from a classmate and the sheets from Jason to complete and practice! Today we began a project on Punnett squares in which students create an alien family following the rules of Mendellian genetics! Below is a link to the assignment:

Punnett Square Poster Today we began a mini challenge with hexbugs. The final challenge will be this Thursday in class. Students may bring in any materials that they would like to use. The requirements for the challenge are linked below:
Hexbug Engineering Design Challenge We finished our Roald Dahl study by reading the story "Royal Jelly." The story is linked below.
While reading, students kept a list of details related to beekeeping in their notebook that are mentioned in the story. If you missed class today, please do this for HW. Read the story and make a list of at least 5 specific details related to bees or beekeeping brought up or discussed in the story. LINK to ROYAL JELLY |
